There are many different varieties of cockatiels but my favorite is the Grey! It just seems to me that they have so much personality, of course that is the only kind of I have owned. They grey is considered the wild coloration of the cockatiels since most in their native Australia have dark grey feathers over his entire body excluding the white wing bars, yellow face and bright orange spots on his cheeks.

Cockatiels have normal markings or can be pearl, pied, totally white or be in combination like pearl pied. They can also possess yellow, orange, pale peach, grey, soft brown or white cheek patches.

The females in all of the mutations are generally lighter than those of the males. Cockatiels average about 14 inches high and weigh from around 75 grams which is very small to well over 120 grams. If you are thinking of buying a larger bird, it would be advisable to purchase one from a bird farm.

Female cockatiels just want to be loved and cuddled and they say that the males are more standoffish, very active and vocal which I do believe, for both of my cockatiels were males. The males do more whistling and singing. They down right get pretty noisy at times. Put your ear plugs in!
These birds make wonderful pets, they can be loving, gentle and personal and they love plenty of attention.
